Slow Cooker BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches

Pork shoulder rubbed with brown sugar and smoked paprika, cooked low until it shreds, then tossed in tangy barbecue sauce and piled on buns with slaw.

  • 4 lb boneless pork shoulder
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp cayenne
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce
  • 8 soft buns
  • 4 cups shredded cabbage slaw with a vinegar dressing

Steps

  1. Mix the sugar, paprika, garlic and onion powders, cayenne and 2 teaspoons salt. Rub all over the pork.
  2. Set the pork in the slow cooker with the broth and vinegar. Cook on low 8 to 10 hours until it pulls apart easily.
  3. Shred the pork, discard excess fat, and toss with 1 cup of the cooking liquid and the barbecue sauce. Keep warm 15 minutes so it soaks in.
  4. Pile onto buns with slaw.
