Why not just ask ChatGPT for a meal plan?
You can, and the first time it's fine. The problems are memory and the rest of the loop: ChatGPT forgets last week's dinners, can't collect votes from your family, and the grocery list lives in a chat. Agent Chef stores preferences, favorites, ratings and the pantry, runs the vote, and gives ChatGPT a checklist of exactly what's due each time it checks in.
Does this need a ChatGPT Plus plan?
Connecting custom MCP servers in ChatGPT requires a paid plan with developer mode or the Agent Chef plugin once it's listed. Codex and the ChatGPT desktop app also work.
What does ChatGPT actually do each week?
It calls one tool, run_agent_chef, which returns the operating manual and today's checklist. Then it does the checklist: propose recipes (with real photos, from real recipe sites), send the ballot links, remind non-voters, lock in the winners when voting closes, and build the shopping list. It stops before any checkout.
